What you should have learned:
By now I hope you understand:
That standardization is the key for a smooth running business. Document all the processes of the business. Standardize everything. Make sure in the standard that a mechinism is in place to handle non-conformance of the process.
The need for products, quality and customer satisfaction has not changed over the centuries. What has changed is who is responsible for the customer.
As the “Lean” philosophy takes hold the business community moves back to the point where the person producing the product is in touch with the customer. That is, the customer is not invisible to the production worker. Stated another way, the customer is not invisible to anyone within the business.
That poor processes and bad standards are responsible for poor products. The individual is not the one who is creating the problem. The problem stems from poor management and how they implement processes.
So to get more profit enable the individual.
